End-of-life announcement for Chef’s Bintray account

Chef will cease publishing to Bintray on December 30th, 2016. We will also delete all existing artifacts from https://bintray.com/chef on this date.

Why are you doing this?

When we completed our work to migrate to Bintray, we realized that we had done a significant amount of the work necessary to internalize and manage a much greater slice of our deployment infrastructure. This ownership enables us to more smoothly integrate our processes, business requirements, and security needs, while still enabling a highly performant, unified experience for our users.

What does this mean to me?

This change will be transparent to most end-users. Services that leverage or return packages.chef.io URLs (e.g. https://downloads.chef.io, https://omnitruck.chef.io) were fully migrated to the new infrastructure on October 11th, 2016.

If you use any of the following products, please update to at least the version noted below before December 30th, 2016:

  • mixlib-install 2.0.0+
  • chef-ingredient 0.21.0+
  • Test Kitchen 1.13.2+ (ships in ChefDK 0.18.30+)
  • Chef Server 12.10.0+ (an upgrade is only required if you depend on the `chef-server-ctl install` for addon installation)

If you use Chef’s APT/YUM repos and are using repo sources with chef.bintray.com URLs please update your repos sources to use packages.chef.io URLs per our official documentation.
