Chef Announcements: New Products, Content, and Learning Resources

This week Progress Software announced a number of new capabilities across the Chef portfolio meant to accelerate time to value for our customers. With the acquisition close earlier this month, Chef became part of Progress and adds DevSecOps capabilities and expertise that help organizations succeed with their digital efforts. Together, we’re building on Chef’s momentum in this space to help people adopt, use, and gain value from Chef software.

At ChefConf Online back in June, we outlined three themes that guide our product development. First, we are delivering products aligned to the workloads our customers value. Second, we continue to make it easier for people representing a wider range of skills to collaborate through our products. And third, we are building more features and integrations that raise the value of Chef technology in enterprise environments. Today’s announcements continue our delivery against those themes:

  • Chef Infrastructure Management  – A new product designed to ease secure infrastructure management at scale.  Built on Chef Infra and Chef Automate, Chef Infrastructure Management delivers automation across a wide range of cloud or on-prem infrastructure.  Customers will benefit from recent performance and ease of use improvements in Chef Infra, as well as new Data Path functionality that extends data integration with ServiceNOW, Kibana, and other popular tools.

  • Chef App Delivery – A new product enabling consistent, successful application delivery at scale. Chef App Delivery combines the power of Chef Habitat and Chef Infra with Chef Automate to optimize how applications are defined, packaged, and delivered over their lifetimes. We’ve simplified pricing as well, with a single price per node or target onto which applications are deployed.

  • Compliance enhancements with Chef Premium Content – We continue to extend the value customers can gain from our products with Chef Premium Content. This curated, Center for Internet Security (CIS)-certified content enables compliance auditing and remediation across a wide range of enterprise assets and is now available via a new cloud delivery service, helping ensure access to the most up-to-date compliance benchmarks available. Chef Compliance includes expanded cloud target scanning capabilities to make it easy to scan and audit any major cloud account at scale in order to maintain continuous compliance.

  • Learn Chef Skills Validation Program built on the Learn Chef platform, this new program combines detailed courses and a validation exam to enable practitioners to build relevant Chef skills and earn endorsement of their skills via Learn Chef. The program leverages the Open Badges standard, allowing portability so learners can share their credentials easily and carry them with them over the course of their careers. Any practitioner can participate in the program via Learn Chef.

As we begin a new era for Chef as part of Progress Software, we are working hard to deliver more value to our customers and our community. These announcements signify another step forward in making Chef products easier to use, easier to adopt, and ultimately, easier to apply to high value use cases.
